It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Today marks the first day of the Oscar season with the announcement of the 2018 Oscar nominations. Meaning that its time for social media debates about what films were snubbed, and what films deserved to be nominated. Eventually evolving into what film, actor/actress, or director deserves to take home the golden statue come March 4th.
The Shape of Water seems to be the favorite this year after gaining 13 nominations for the 90th Academy Awards. Making it just one shy of the overall record. The Guillermo del Toro directed movie depicting the romance of a mute woman and a misunderstood aquatic monster is up for best picture, best director, best screenplay and best acting awards for Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer and Richards Jenkins, as well as other technical categories.
The other standout this year is Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, landing 8 nominations, including best picture, best director, and best cinematography. Surprisingly, this is Nolan’s first ever nomination for best director in his career.
For a full list of nominations check out the Oscar Nominations 2018 list put out by Variety.
The Academy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the second time and airs live on ABC on March 4th.

The film set to release in another 57 international markets and is tracking to bring in more than $100 million in those markets.
Warner Bros. has got to be happy with the film tracking like this in the international market because they spent a reported $175 Million in making the movie. So if the film performs as well here in the U. S as it seems to be in the rest of the world then they will be in the black. When hearing this I, and many others, assumed that it would be a small cameo from someone like Jeremy Renner‘s Hawkeye or Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow. If reports are to be believed I, and many others, are very wrong.
According to Variety Robert Downey Jr. will be appearing as Tony Stark in Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. However at this time it is not known just how big Downey’s role will be. Continue reading “Tony Stark Will Appear in Sony’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’”
