March 29-31 Box Office Report

Another weekend done, means another box office is in the bag.

To nobody’s surprise Dumbo came out on top this weekend bringing in around $45 Million dollars, with Us and Captain Marvel trailing behind by quite a lot.  However, that was to expected. If you listened to last Friday’s podcast, then you’ll know that this is exactly what was predicted.

However, this weekend did bring with it one big shock.  Unplanned, a film that flew compleetly under my radar, made it into the number 4 box office spot.  This is extreamly shocking, and was ironicly unplanned, due to the lack of hype around this movie – or so I thought.

I had never seen a trailer for Unplanned, never heard of it, didn’t know it was coming out.  Yet, despite my lack of knowledge it struck a cord with its targeted audience and they came out in droves to support it.  The film managed to making just over $6 Million on a reported budget of the same amount.  The film was out for only its first weekend and already made its money back.

Check out the full box office breakdown of the top five spots below!

  • No 1. Dumbo – $45,000,000 in its first weekend of release.

March 22-24 Box Office Report

Another weekend at the box office and another weekend of annalists getting their predictions very wrong!

Jordan Peele‘s Us, his directorial follow up to the smash hit Get Out, soared past all expectations making over $70 million domestically. Making this film the 3rd highest horror debut of all time! It also became the biggest domestic opening weekend of an original R-rated film, beating out the previous record holder, Ted.

Captain Marvel also managed to make another $35 million – continuing to build its earnings and get ever so closer to the $1 billion mark worldwide. It is easy to speculate that Captain Marvel will become a billion dollar earner within the next two weeks.

Check out the official top five positions at the box office below!

  • No 1. Us – $71,117,625 in its first weekend of release.
  • No 2. Captain Marvel – $34,271,793. Bringing its total gross in its 3rd weekend to $320,749,628.
