Another trailer for the upcoming video game adaptation of Tomb Raider has been released. And despite the fact that it is a video game adaptation – something that Hollywood seems to never be able to get right, this trailer actually looks like the movie might be good.
After several months of speculation, MGM and Warner Bros. have finally found their new Tomb Raider! Unfortunately it is not Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Daisy Ridley as I had previously speculated, however this new casting news is just as interesting.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ex Machina’s Alicia Vikander has been cast as the video-game icon, and will be joining director Roar Uthaug who has already been attached to the movie.
According to the report the new Tomb Raider will “tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure.” This seems to draw inspiration from the 2013 Tomb Raider game which focuses on a young Lara Croft and her first adventure. After the crazy success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, actress Daisy Ridley is well on her way to being one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. According to a report from Deadline the young actress is at the top of a casting list to take the lead role of Laura Croft in a new Tomb Raider remake. The film has been talked about at Warner Brothers and MGM for quite some time now, but the film seems to be picking up momentum. In the same report Deadline does cautions that it is still very early in the casting process and that a new lead for the film is still not set in stone.
A release date has not yet been set for the film. However, with the rise of video game based movies in Hollywood, and the growing popularity of the new Tomb Raider video game, it is a pretty safe bet that we could see Laura Croft return to the big screen within the next two years.
