February 10-12 Box Office Results

This was as crazy weekend in the world of movie releases. It was the first weekend in 2017 where three major films where released all in the same weekend and competing for the number one spot.  All newly released films did make it into the top three spots, and it is about how most predicted it would be.

The kid friendly film, The LEGO Batman Movie, made it into the number one spot with just over $50 Million – no shock to anybody there.  It’s marketing campaign was knocking it out of the park since day one.

In second place is Fifty Shades Darker, once again, this is not a shock to anybody.  With the success of the book series, and with the financial success of the first movie, it is not a surprise that the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel made it into the second spot behind The LEGO Batman movie. However, Fifty Shades of Grey made over $85 million on its opening weekend, and it had a 73% drop between its first and second weekend.  Fifty Shades Darker barely made over half of what its predecessor did, and it is not out of the realm of possibilities that it has a similar drop off.  It will be interesting to see where it ends up in the coming weeks.

Falling in the 3rd slot for this past weekend is John Wick: Chapter Two. Now, opposite of the film sitting just above it in the Box Office, John Wick: Chapter Two made more money in its opening weekend than its predecessor.  John Wick only made $14 Million in its opening weekend, meaning that John Wick: Chapter Two made more than doubled what the first film in the franchise did.  Which is awesome!  So while it is sitting below two more films this past weekend, when breaking down the financial stats it is sitting just fine in its opening weekend.

‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ Review.

The LEGO Batman Movie is a spinoff story based off the Batman character last seen in the hit 2014 film, The LEGO Movie.  Without spoiling anything; it’s about the world’s favorite dark knight fighting to saving Gotham from his greatest enemy, the Joker.  The LEGO Batman Movie is directed by first-time feature film director, Chris McKay, and stars the voice talents of Will Arnett as Batman, Michael Cera as Robin, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, and Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth.

Is this movie one of the best DC movies released since Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight in 2008 as some outlets are saying? I’m going to have to say no.  Does it feature one of the best Jokers that we have seen put on the screen? To that, I will say yes.  In no particular order, I would say this Joker, voiced by Zach Galifianakis, falls in the top 3 Joker spots next to Heath Ledger’s Joker as well as Mark Hamill’s Joker from the Batman Animated Series. Costumes for feature ‘Power Rangers’ movie revealed!

It was announced nearly a year ago that Lionsgate would be creating a live action, modern, version of the 90’s hit series, Power Rangers.  And after a year of speculation, and small nuggets of news here and there we finally have a look at what the costumes of these teenage heroes will be.

The image was first reported by Entertainment Weekly Thursday morning and showcasing the five rangers – Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, singer Becky G. as the Yellow Ranger, RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, and Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger – in their new costumes.  Despite criticisms that are already happening, one thing is certain – the new costumes will definitely protect the rangers better than the 90’s spandex costumes. Check out the new costumes below!

Power Rangers

Director of the film, Dean Israelite told Entertainment Weekly that, “These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.” Continue reading “Costumes for feature ‘Power Rangers’ movie revealed!”
