Captain Marvel is the newest film in the Marvel franchise, meaning that it is just one film closer to the most anticipated Marvel movie of the year, Avengers: Endgame. However, this is not just a stepping-stone movie – a placeholder if you will until we get to the main event. It is a film that manages to stay as engaging and as entertaining as Iron Man, Captain America: The First Avenger, or Dr. Strange was when they first debuted.
Carol Danvers, the superhuman Captain Marvel, is played by Academy Award winner Brie Larson. While many criticized her when the trailers came out as being very one-note, she fully proves that she can carry not only this film, but will be capable of can acting alongside future Avenger teammates Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), and Chris Evans (Captain America).
Alongside Larson is Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as the soon to be S.H.I.E.L.D director Nick Fury, Jude Law as Yon-Rogg and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos. While Jackson and Law turn in performances that as good as you would expect, Mendelsohn surprisingly is the stand out star next to Larson. His character has a pivotal shift that you would not have expected, and he manages to convincingly portray every turn his character takes. I would like to go into more details on this but then we are getting into spoiler territory – so just know that you will walk away from Captain Marvel loving his character and hoping that he will have future appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A new trailer for the much anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming arrived this morning and it gives audiences a closer look at the newest version of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. It also confirms that Iron Man/Tony Stark is probably going to have a much bigger role than people originally guessed. Check out the trailer below!
Everyone’s favorite web slinger is back after getting our first taste of the wall-crawler in Captain America: Civil War. Here it is, our first real good look at the new stand alone Spider-Man movie.
Spider-Man Homecoming stars Tom Holland as the iconic web-head as well as Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Zendaya as Peter’s high school crush Liz, and Michael Keaton as The Vulture. Also, making a guest appearance is Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.
The film is directed by Jon Watts who’s best known work to date is 2015’s Cop Car. Watts has stated in many interviews that in this new Spider-Man movie he would be going for a “John Hughes” feel. For those who don’t know what that means check out Hughes’ best work in Ferris Bueller’s Day off and The Breakfast Club.
After watching this trailer I can deffinetly feel the John Hughes vibes coming through. However, it still feels like a Spider-Man movie. And that is enough to get me excited.
This trailer not only gives us a first look at Sony’s new Spider-Man film, but it also lays to rest all of the rumors and speculation round who Zendaya would be playing.
Back in August there were many sites claiming that she would be the iconic Peter Parker love interest Marry Jane. Due to Zendaya not being a natural redhead, this brought up lots of controversy. You can see my post on the matter here.
After watching the trailer we do get a really quick look at Zendaya’s character as she calls out Peter for being creepy. We still do not have a name for the character, however, it should be a safe assumption that she will not be the girl-next-door Marry Jane.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is still set for a release date of July 7th, 2017. After seeing this trailer, I can not wait.
I got another Facebook question messaged in. And this on is from Wade Riley who writes:
Are there any characters you feel are missing from the avengers that would benefit the story line?
Thank you very much for the question Wade!
I’ll give you three characters that I feel are missing and could benefit the avengers lineup.
Right off the bat I would have to say Luke Cage, also known as Power Man.
He is the embodiment of a perfect underdog story. When he was young he grew up in gangs on the streets of Harlem. And was constantly in trouble. But after several tragic incidences involving loved ones, he decides to better himself and start doing what he could to turn his life around. Right around that time he is experimented on, and through a lab mistake, is turned into Power Man – who has unbreakable skin, able to lift/press 25 tons and punch through 4 inch steel plates. He also taught himself in hand to hand combat, and self-educated in law, and is fluent is several different languages.
The Avengers are missing a power person on their team. The only one that fits the bill is Hulk, but he is too unpredictable. Cage would be able to kick all sorts of ass, as well as act as a moral center of the team when Captain America isn’t around. Continue reading “Q&A: Missing Marvel Characters?”
Its been rumored for a while that we would be getting characters form the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Sony’s new Spider-Man film. When hearing this I, and many others, assumed that it would be a small cameo from someone like Jeremy Renner‘s Hawkeye or Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow. If reports are to be believed I, and many others, are very wrong.
“Hey Everyone,” the new Captain America: Civil War Trailer was just released by Marvel Studios. And if you stay until the very end of the trailer, in Marvel movie fashion, a big reveal is made. We finally get to see Spider-Man! Check out the trailer.
Tuesday night Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., who play Captain America and Iron Man, sat down with Jimmy Kimmel to debut the new trailer for the next film in the Marvel franchise, Captain America: Civil War.
The two minute long trailer showed off the Avengers facing off against each other. Which is something that Marvel fans had been clamoring for since Downey was announced as a co-star for the film last year.
