Live Action ‘My Hero Academia Movie’ Is On Its Way

On Wednesday, Legendary pictures dropped a bombshell when they announced that they would be adapting Kohei Horikoshi‘s very popular manga franchise My Hero Academia into a live action feature film.

This is not the first anime adaptation Legendary picture has taken on.  On May 10th of next year they will be releasing Pokémon Detective Pikachu. However, My Hero Academia is currently one of the most watched anime’s currently in the world.  Taking on this project is sure to cause controversy.

The manga version of the My Hero Academia series centers around Deku, a.k.a Izuku Midoriya, a young boy who daydreams about being a hero but is clearly not a likely candidate – that’s because he lives in a world where four out of every five people have superpowers (called “quirks”) which means an “average” kids is neither common nor close to average.  Izuku fights against the odds and enrolls in one of the world’s most prestigious and intimidating hero academies where he will find challenges that require him to risk everything to prove himself to be truly special.

While this sounds like an absolutely awesome movie (the anime sure is), nearly all live action attempts at popular anime have failed at the box office as well as critically.  This is going to come down to having a very over the top budget to keep up with the powers that the kids display in the manga, as well as perfect casting.

What do you think of this live action rendition of My Hero Academia?  Will it be one of the only live action remakes that succeeds, or will it join the likes of many others and fail miserably?  Leave a comment below and let’s make a discussion out of it.
