February 10-12 Box Office Results

This was as crazy weekend in the world of movie releases. It was the first weekend in 2017 where three major films where released all in the same weekend and competing for the number one spot.  All newly released films did make it into the top three spots, and it is about how most predicted it would be.

The kid friendly film, The LEGO Batman Movie, made it into the number one spot with just over $50 Million – no shock to anybody there.  It’s marketing campaign was knocking it out of the park since day one.

In second place is Fifty Shades Darker, once again, this is not a shock to anybody.  With the success of the book series, and with the financial success of the first movie, it is not a surprise that the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel made it into the second spot behind The LEGO Batman movie. However, Fifty Shades of Grey made over $85 million on its opening weekend, and it had a 73% drop between its first and second weekend.  Fifty Shades Darker barely made over half of what its predecessor did, and it is not out of the realm of possibilities that it has a similar drop off.  It will be interesting to see where it ends up in the coming weeks.

Falling in the 3rd slot for this past weekend is John Wick: Chapter Two. Now, opposite of the film sitting just above it in the Box Office, John Wick: Chapter Two made more money in its opening weekend than its predecessor.  John Wick only made $14 Million in its opening weekend, meaning that John Wick: Chapter Two made more than doubled what the first film in the franchise did.  Which is awesome!  So while it is sitting below two more films this past weekend, when breaking down the financial stats it is sitting just fine in its opening weekend.

Check out the rest of the Box Office results below!

No 1. The LEGO Batman Movie – $52,003,468 in its first weekend of release.

No 2. Fifty Shades Darker – $46,607,250 in its first weekend of release.

No 3. John Wick: Chapter Two – $30,436,123 in its first weekend of release.

No 4. Split – $9,525,935. Bringing its total gross in its 4th weekend to $112,498,205

No 5. Hidden Figures – $8,002,670.  Bringing its total gross in its 8th weekend to 131,454,920. Continue reading “February 10-12 Box Office Results”

‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ Review

John Wick, The Boogeyman, The Devil, returns for a second chapter in this revenge, gun fu, thriller, and if you think he’s lost any of his edge from 2014 you are dead wrong.  Keanu Reeves reprises his role as the tenacious Mr. Wick, and he is leaving behind him a trail of bodies that have suffered from a dying case of bullets to the head.

If you are a fan of the first John Wick, then you are defiantly going to enjoy this movie. Chad Stahelski, who directed the first movie, reprises his directorial role and brings back just as much grit and violence that made the first film so enjoyable.  The film is not without a few issues, but overall it is a very fun time at the movie theaters, and I completely feel should be seen in a movie theater with great picture and the best sound possible.  You will not be disappointed. John Wick 2 Cast

It wasn’t that long ago that Keanu Reeves blasted his way into theaters as the boogieman in the awesome “gun fu” film, John Wick.  Filming for the sequel is currently underway, and director Chad Stahelski continues to add to the film’s cast.

According to Deadline, John Wick 2 has added Riccardo Scamarcio and Peter Stormare. While John Leguizamo, Tom Sadowski, Bridget Moynahan, and Lance Reddick are returning for the sequel.

Keanu Reeves, Common, and Ian McShane have already signed on for the movie, which began filming in New York.

At this point little is still known about the plot at this time.  However, I would love to have the story revolve around the hotel from the original film, The Continental.

John Wick 2 hits theaters in 2016, and I for one can not wait. However, I hope that no dog is killed in this one.
