If you had told me last week just how much money Star Wars: The Force Awakens was going to make in the first day of ticket pre-sales I would have laughed at you and called you an idiot. And let’s be honest here – I don’t think you can fault me for this because these numbers are insane!
IMAX Corp said Monday’s pre-sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens far exceeded first day sales for 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers and also 2013’s Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which were all in the $1million pre-sale range.
‘We anticipated the ticket sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens to break records, however the pace in which this film has achieved this is remarkable,’ David Seargent, group managing director of Event Cinemas’ parent company AHL, said in a statement.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens sold $6.5million across 390 screens in the United States. That’s Six Times the amount of the previous record holders. But those aren’t even the crazy numbers.
