April 12-14 Box Office Report

Another weekend has gone by, and Shazam! continues to hold fast to its spot at the top of the box office.  Everyone else fell behind by a mile!

This was an interesting weekend at the box office.  In the top five positions there were three movies that are reboots of previously made movies, and one movie based on an already excising comic book IP.  Meaning that Little, which came in second place, was the only movie based on an original idea that made it into the top five box office positions.

Two films made their opening weekend debut this past weekend, yet failed to make it into the number one spot – Little, which made $15 million and Hellboy, making only $12 Million.  The returns for both of these films is below what outlets were predicting and below what the studios wanted  Is this due to bad marketing?  Probably not.  Many, including myself, are speculating that their lack of box office success is due to the looming shadow that the upcoming Avengers: Endgame has been casting over the month of April.  Many movie going audience members are saving their pennies so they can spend it on the newest Avengers film.

‘Hellboy’ Red Band Trailer and New Posters Released

Yesterday we got a couple of awesome new posters (below) advertising the upcoming R-Rated comic book based movie Hellboy. And with those posters an announcement of a new Red Band trailer!

Dark Horse Comics announced on twitter yesterday that at the stroke of midnight (Eastern Time) a new trailer would be coming. And as promised, the trailer was delivered. And Wow! It rocks! Check out the new trailer below.

The trailer shows just what fans of the Hellboy series would want – violence, blood, hellish demons, and hilarious quips.

The trailer and posters features David Harbour as the titular Hellboy, a half deamon half human superhero summoned to earth as a baby, raised to fight the hell spawn creatures that find their way to earth.

Alongside Harbour is Daniel Dae Kim, Milla Jovovich as the Blood Queen, and Ian McShane as Professor Bruttenholm (Hellboy’s adopted father.).

The first trailer was released back in December to pretty lukewarm reviews. Claiming that the tone was not what people were expecting. However, after watching this new trailer throw all of those negative feelings out the window! This movie looks awesome! The violent action scenes mixed in with hilarious wisecracks form Hellboy to the heavy tune of Smoke on the Water is perfect. Hellboy just rose to one of the most anticipated movies of 2019.

The film is slated to be released on April 12th!
