October 26-28 Box Office Report

Success and failure, that is the best way to describe this past weekend’s box office!

In the top five positions at the box office there is only one newly released movie, and it’s in position number five!  The submarine-thriller film staring Gerard Butler and Gary Oldman sank at the box office only bringing in a measly $6.6 Million.  Normally this is the type of film that would crack at least $15 Million in its first weekend but bad reviews (check mine out here) and high performance from movies that were already in theaters kept it from raising any higher.

However, for HalloweenA Star is Born, and Venom there is nothing but praise to be given to these films.  Each one has managed to stay in the top three since they were released.  Already this October has broken the record for the most box office dollars ever in this month and it was all due to these three movies drawing in so many box office dollars.  Universal Studios, Warner Brothers, and Sony are popping bottles after the month they had.

You can check out the full box office breakdown below!

No 1. Halloween (2018) – $31,419,070.  Bringing its total gross in its 2nd weekend to $126,075,470.

No 2. A Star is Born (2018) – $14,047,079.  Bringing its total gross in its 4th weekend to $148,614,479.

No 3. Venom – $10,652,381.  Bringing its total gross in its 4th weekend to $187,134,695.

No 4. Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween – $7,284,207. Bringing its total gross in its 3rd weekend to $38,133,016.

No 5.  Hunter Killer – $6,653,777 in its first weekend of release.

October 19-21 Box Office

This October has been a great month for breaking records!

The newly released Halloween movie managed to bring in over $76 Million! Meaning that this sequel to the 1978 film managed to become the highest opening weekend slasher movie of all time, as well as October’s second highest grossing movie – just falling short of Venom, the first place film, by $4 Million.

However, Halloween isn’t the only successful film this weekend.  A Star is Bornthe Bradly Cooper directed film that came out 3 weekends ago, managed to overtake Venom for the first time since its release.  It is very rare for a movie to stay in the 2nd place spot for 3 weeks in a row, while other movies fall below the 2n place marker. This can only be attributed to the very positive word of mouth surrounding the film, as well as repeat views by audience members.

Check how the other films faired in the top five below!

No 1. Halloween (2018) – $76,221,545 in its first weekend of release.

No 2. A Star is Born (2018) – $19,051,082.  Bringing its total gross in its 3rd weekend to $126,127,328.

No 3. Venom – $18,043,887.  Bringing its total gross in its 3rd weekend to $171,063,982.

No 4. Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween – $9,721,173. Bringing its total gross in its 2nd weekend to $28,810,985

No 5.  First Man – $8,327,135.  Bringing its total gross in its 2nd weekend to $29,762,185.
