Captain Marvel is the newest film in the Marvel franchise, meaning that it is just one film closer to the most anticipated Marvel movie of the year, Avengers: Endgame. However, this is not just a stepping-stone movie – a placeholder if you will until we get to the main event. It is a film that manages to stay as engaging and as entertaining as Iron Man, Captain America: The First Avenger, or Dr. Strange was when they first debuted.
Carol Danvers, the superhuman Captain Marvel, is played by Academy Award winner Brie Larson. While many criticized her when the trailers came out as being very one-note, she fully proves that she can carry not only this film, but will be capable of can acting alongside future Avenger teammates Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), and Chris Evans (Captain America).
Alongside Larson is Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as the soon to be S.H.I.E.L.D director Nick Fury, Jude Law as Yon-Rogg and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos. While Jackson and Law turn in performances that as good as you would expect, Mendelsohn surprisingly is the stand out star next to Larson. His character has a pivotal shift that you would not have expected, and he manages to convincingly portray every turn his character takes. I would like to go into more details on this but then we are getting into spoiler territory – so just know that you will walk away from Captain Marvel loving his character and hoping that he will have future appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ernest Cline‘s famous 2011 Novel “Ready Player One” is very well known for not only being a best selling novel, but also for its hundreds of movie, TV, music, and pop culture references that harken back to the 80’s. Some of the best references in the novel are Steven Spielberg movie references.
Funny enough, Steven Spielberg is now in the process of making a film adaptation of Cline’s novel, and it looks like production is now full steam ahead!
Set pictures of Ready Player One have been released on Twitter thanks to twitter user Michelle Green. The pictures portray spray painted images of different 80’s and 70’s icons like DC Comic’s The Flash, Street Fighter’s Sagat, the mogwai, Gizmo, from the Spielberg produced Gremlins, and the Shark from the Spielberg directed Jaws!
It is hard to speculate in what setting these pictures are in – either our crumbling dystopian future, or from the OASIS, a virtual reality characters in the novel go to in order to escape the crumbling society they live in . Either way, its pretty cool.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in trouble and is going into expensive reshoots over the summer!
What does this mean for the franchise?
According to a source talking with Page Six the executives at Disney are not pleased with the first cut of the film by director Gareth Edwards.
According to the source, “The execs at Disney are not happy with the movie, and Rogue One will have to go back into four weeks of expensive reshoots in July.”
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, and Diego Luna. And this is going to be the first of several spinoff films that take place in various times in the Star Wars timeline.
So is it time to start screaming all is lost for Star Wars? Is this the return of the prequels?
