August 12-14 Box Office Results

It comes as no surprise that the DC Comic book film, Suicide Squad, came in first place again for its 2nd weekend at the box office.  However, there is an argument to be made that it was not the most successful film this past weekend.

The big story here is that Sausage Party, an R-Rated animated comedy, was able to pull in $34 Million on a reported $19 Million budget.  Not only was the film able to make back all of its money in just its first weekend, it also broke the record for the highest opening weekend for an R-Rated animated film.

The other thing worth mentioning is that Bad Moms has been able to stay in the top five for 3 weekends in a row – which is something that nobody would have thought possible before the film was release.

Check out the rest of the box office results below!

No 1. Suicide Squad – $43,536,013.  Bringing its total gross in its 2nd weekend to $222,640,741.

No 2. Sausage Party – $34,263,534 in its first weekend of release.

No 3. Pete’s Dragon – $21,514,095 in its first weekend of release.

No 4. Jason Bourne – $13,846,875. Bringing its total gross in its 3rd weekend to $127,009,220.

No 5. Bad Moms – $11,362,783.  Bringing its total gross in its 3rd weekend to $71,374,076.

‘Suicide Squad’ is setting itself up for Box Office Success

Currently Suicide Squad is battling very low critic reviews, however that doesn’t seem to be keeping the film down!

According to a report from Variety the film has already been able to bring in $8.1 million across seven international markets, which includes South Korea’s $2.9 Million and France’s $2.7 Million. Looking at these numbers it is already set to pass box office jugernauts Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool – and it shows no signs of slowing down.

The film set to release in another 57 international markets and is tracking to bring in more than $100 million in those markets.

Warner Bros. has got to be happy with the film tracking like this in the international market because they spent a reported $175 Million in making the movie.  So if the film performs as well here in the U. S as it seems to be in the rest of the world then they will be in the black. Continue reading “‘Suicide Squad’ is setting itself up for Box Office Success”

‘Suicide Squad’ Fan Attacks Rotten Tomatoes With Online Petition

It looks like DC fanboys/girls have had it with critics giving their movies bad reviews!

A fan mad petition was created on  to shut down the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes over the fact that the last three DC comic book based movies received poor critic scores.  2013’s Man of Steel received a overall critic rating of 55% on Rotten Tomatoes, this year’s Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice received a very low 27% critic rating, and the soon to be released (August 5, 2016) Suicide Squad at the time of writing is sitting at a surprisingly low 30% with early critic screenings.

The creator of the petition is identified as a fan from Alexandra, Egypt, and argues that the bad reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are negatively affecting people’s opinion on the DC movies, even if they’re “really great.”  The unnamed organizer says:

We need this site to be shut down because It’s Critics (sic) always give The DC Extended Universe movies unjust Bad Reviews, Like 1 – Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 2016 2- Suicide Squad 2016…And that Affects people’s opinion even if it’s a really great movies (sic)”

Ben Affleck Adapting Original Story For ‘Batman’ Film

So who remembers when Ben Affleck being cast as Batman in Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was on of the most controversial topics being discussed during that time. Funny how now that the movie as been out the “Batfleck” has gone on to be the only unanimously praised aspect about the film. Now Affleck has been chosen by Warner Bros. to write, direct, and star in the next Batman solo film.

Since the announcement fans have been wondering which classic Batman comic book storyline Affleck will adapt for his solo script.  And it looks like we may now know the answer to that question – none of them, at least not verbatim. ‘The Flash’ & ‘Aquaman’ Directors Scramble!!

According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Flash director Seth Grahame-Smith is leaving the scarlet-speedster project due to “creative differences.” Grahame-Smith, who was the screenwriter of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, was suppose to make his directorial debut with this movie. However, with his departure he will only be receiving a screenwriter credit, having already penned a draft of the movie.

The Flash has a release date of March 16, 2018 and will be staring Ezra Miller as “the fastest man alive.” So while it never sounds good to have a director leave a project they still have a lot of time to find a new director. Also, looking at the resume of Grahame-Smith I am not too broken up about his departure.  I do not doubt that he can make good movies, but after the critical failure of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Warner Bros. can not afford another flop, so getting a more seasoned director for such a beloved property would be the better idea.  However, this story seemed to have started up the rumor mill in other places.

When looking at the top 5 of this weekend’s box office it’s no surprise at all to see that The Jungle Book was able to take the number 1 place on the list. The anticipation was high, the marketing for the movie was spot on, and early, positive, word of mouth was circulating about the film before its release. However, what follows after the number 1 spot is quite noteworthy.

The most glaring, a hilarious, placement was that of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. I was expecting a drop between weeks 3 and 4, but not a 61% drop. That’s honestly laughable for this movie. I never would have expected The Boss to be able to overtake Batman v. Superman at the box office. Continue reading “APRIL 15-17 BOX OFFICE RESULTS”

Q&A: Better Than Doomsday?

Here we have a very special type of question.  It’s a straight up opinion question – and I love me some opinion questions.  It means I get to give my truest answer and I’m not wrong in any way, shape or form.  And it doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks.

And this very special question is asked by Victoria Neet.

Which villain would you have preferred in “Batman v. Superman” instead of Doomsday?

For those you who don’t know who Doomsday is; he is a villain in the DC Universe who is most famous for being the one to murder superman in the 1992 comic “The Death of Superman.”  If you watch the trailer below you can see him appear at the end of the trailer around the 2:20 minute mark.
