It has been several years in the making, and it is finally done!
According to a report put out by Disney, the final purchase goes into effect on March 20th at 12:02 a.m. Eastern Time.
The deal was supposed to be finalized closer to the beginning of this year, however the Fox regulators in Mexico were holding up negotiations. The writing had been on the wall for months that the deal would go through, it was just a matter of when.
According to a report that Disney put out, 21st Century Fox shareholders will have until Thursday to choose the amount of cash and Disney stock to receive in this historic transaction that cost an upwards of $71.3 billion. In the buyout Disney will acquire 20th Century Fox film and TV studios, Fox Television (such as FX), international networks, an additional 30% stake in Hulu (60% in total after the buyout), stakes in National Geographic Partners, Indian television broadcaster Star India, and other key assets. While this does seem like a lot, because it is, it is not everything that Fox owns. Continue reading “Disney Is Finally Closing The Fox Deal!”

Although it was a four-day weekend thanks to President’s Day, this was not the greatest weekend for new releases. Only two out of the three major films being released even made it into the top 5 positions. And the number one newly released film is sitting in third place.
The first and second position in this past weekend’s box office go to The LEGO Batman Movie and Fifty Shades Darker respectively. It is no surprise that the animated LEGO film was to be number one for a second weekend in a row, especially when considering that there is currently no other “family friendly” films in theaters at this time.
However, Fifty Shades Darker holding on to the second-place position for a second weekend in a row is impressive. While the film did see over a 50% drop in revenue from week one to week two, I had anticipated that it would have dropped a bit more.
The Matt Damon stared film, The Great Wall, is the highest grossing newly released film this past weekend. Bringing in just over $18 Million in the domestic box office. And while it did make it into third place, the amount the film made is seen by the studio as a bit of a letdown. Not a full on “flop” by any means, but still disappointing.
You can see the full list of the top 5 box office spots below. Continue reading “February 17-21 Box Office Results”
I must start off this review by saying this is one of the weirdest movies I have ever seen. The synopsis put out by the studio does not do the film justice; which reads: “An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious ‘wellness center’ at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure.” Please note that the synopsis put out by the studio says nothing about audience members questioning their own sanity during the viewing of this movie.
Imagine for a moment a room full of executives over at 20th Century Fox. In front of every one of these men and women are piles of scraps of paper with scribbled notes of things a general movie going audience would find creepy and unsettling. One note says “creepy anorexic looking people,” one says “mind control,” another says “iron lungs” one says “old hospital with steam rooms” one says “body decay” and another scrap of paper says “lots of eels.” These highly-paid men and women then put these ideas in a hat and take turns pulling these random concepts out of a hat and laying them out on the table in the same order in which they were drawn. Lastly, they take a picture of this “timeline of creepiness,” add a footnote to the picture that says “make the film look really good, very unsettling, and add a few of your good ideas” then email said photo to screenwriter Justin Haythe, director Gore Verbinski, and lead actor Dane DeHaan – BOOM! You have the makings of A Cure for Wellness. Continue reading “My Review of ‘A Cure for Wellness’”
20th Century Fox has released the first teaser poster for Oscar-winning Birdman director Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s highly anticipated film The Revenant. And it is absolutely gorgeous.
Based on true events, the film takes place in the early 19th century and stars Leonardo DiCaprio as hunter Hugh Glass, who is left for dead by his compatriots following a bear mauling. He subsequently awakens and sets out for revenge, with Tom Hardy and Domhnall Gleeson filling the roles of the men who must come face to face with Glass’ wrath. According to what seem to be possible rumors, Die Hard 6 is on its way and will serve as a prequel story centered around a young John McClane!
If you think this is a bad idea, then you’re at odds with the star of the Die Hard films, Bruce Willis, who had this to say when asked to give his thoughts on a Die Hard prequel:
“It’s a very good idea, a really tricky idea, and I’m very happy about it. It’s a really cool idea, because it’s the origin story. It’s gonna happen at the beginning of this. We’re going to bounce back and forth.”
