March 15-17 Box Office Report

Another weekend in the word of movies completed, and surprisingly most of the films made more money than anybody predicted.

As predicted in last weeks podcast episode, Captain Marvel stayed in the number one spot  However, my prediction was not completely accurate – the Marvel film dropped only 55.7%, as apposed to the 70% predicted.

The film garnered a lot praise from audiences after its first weekend and it is no surprise that it had lots of repeat viewing as well as viewership from those that may not normally go to a superhero film.  After this past weekend Captain Marvel is showing that it may just cross the coveted one billion dollar mark.

New release films Wonder Park, and Five Feet Apart, despite coming behind Captain Marvel managed to bring in more box office dollars than had been predicted. Both managed to cross over the $10 Million mark, something that many did not think was possible going against a Marvel superhero film in its second week.

Check out the full box office breakdown below!

No 1. Captain Marvel – $67,988,130. Bringing its total gross in its 2nd weekend to $264,884,063.

No 2. Wonder Park – $15,853,646 in its first weekend of release.

No 3. Five Feet Apart – $13,190,286 in its first weekend of release.
