Get ready fans of Tom and Jerry, as well as Scooby-Doo, you got movies coming!
According to an article published in Variety, Warner Bros. are in negotiations with director Tim Story to direct a new Tom and Jerry live-action/animated hybrid film, as well as talking to Chris Columbus to be the creative producer on a new Scooby-Doo animated movie.
This announcement comes on the heels of Warner Bros. announcing that they are aiming for a balance of animate movies as well as live-action hybrids.
Tom and Jerry is expected to start shooting in 2019. The plan is to shoot in the real world with an animated version of Tom and Jerry interreacting with real people. This sounds like it could be in the very same vein of Who Framed Roger Rabbit or Space Jam. Sources have also told Variety that, staying true to the characters of Tom and Jerry, they will not talk and will continue to rely on physical comedy as they have been since their inception in 1940.
As far as Scooby-Doo, the fully animated movie is full steam ahead with an expected release date in the first quarter of 2020. At the moment there is no casting announcement for the voices for the meddling kids, but expect one soon.
