Have you heard the word? Well, this is the word – Sony is in talks to get a new Men in Black movie off the ground, and they already have a director in mind.
According to a report put out by Variety, Sony is in talks with Straight Outta Compton and The Fate of the Furious director F. Gary Gray to helm a new version of Men in Black
It is unknown at this time if previous Men in Black stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will make an appearance in this new film, but it is said that the new story will focus on new characters that are apart of the same alien hunting organization.
From all accounts this does not seem like a “reboot,” but rather a new story in an already established universe. In the same vein that the new Jurassic Park movies take place in the same universe established in 1993 but revolve around new characters.
Gray’s Straight Outta Compton became one of 2015’s most critically acclaimed movies, and his 2017 big blockbuster movie The Fate of the Furious managed to be one the year’s highest grossing films. With a track record like this then it safe to say that the new movie is in good directorial hands.
Expect casting announcements very soon. The movie currently holds a May 17, 2019 release date. This means that a big budget movie such as this will need to start filming soon.
