If you’re like me then one of your favorite movies to have come out of 2017 was Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver. And if you are like me, then you’ll be excited to know that Wright has assured us all that he would be the only one to come back direct a Baby Driver sequel!
Should a sequel happen, this is nothing but good news. Baby Driver become one of the biggest box office successes of 2017 – making $225 million worldwide. It make just over $100 million domestically. Not only was it a box office smash, it was one of the few films that was loved by both critics and audiences – getting a 93% fresh ratting on Rotten Tomatoes as well as an A- score on CinemaScore. With all these accolades it is understandable why a sequel is very much a possibility.
MTV managed to speak to Edgar Wright at the Golden Gloves and asked the director about the status of the Baby Driver sequel. And while there is still no concrete deal agreed upon, Wright says not only will he be the only one to direct a Baby Driver 2, but that he already knows where the new plot should go.
If you’ve seen Baby Driver, then you know the ending for Baby (Ansel Elgort) and Debora (Lily James) ends on a bit of a question, leaving the possibility for a sequel very open. Considering the praise the movie got, there’s no reason why Sony shouldn’t want back in the driver’s seat for another round.
I really hope this happens. And should a sequel be in the cards, I’m really hoping for another great “killer track.”
