March 10-12 Box Office Results

If you guessed that Kong would emerge from this past box office as the victor, then you were correct.  Kong: Skull Island was able to draw a pretty decent crowd to the theater and made just over $61 Million, beating expectations that had predicted the film would only make $50 Million.  However, if the studios are going to make any money with Kong, then the film needs to be a hit oversees in order to get back their budget of $185 Million.

However, while Kong did get number one at the Box Office, I do not think it it’s the top story.  What I believe is even more impressive is that Universal’s Get Out was able to cross the $100 Million mark, which is something that nobody had predicted would happen.  Especially on just its 3rd weekend in theaters.

The other thing worth noting is Logan’s performance, which only had the film dropping 50% between week one and week 2.  While that does seem like a bit of a drop at first, after considering its competition this weekend it is actually very impressive it made that much money again. The critical praise and great word of mouth from fans are driving people to see this movie, and I am predicting it stays in the top 5 for the rest of the March.
