Another weekend has passed, and we finally see a few juggernauts from previous weeks fall below the top five spots to give way to new juggernauts that are sure to hang around for a while. When you look at the list below, you will notice that John Wick: Chapter Two as well as Fifty Shades Darker have been removed from the top five positions, and replaced with the films like Logan, The Shack, and Before I Fall.
Logan being in the number one spot I’m sure is no surprise to anybody. The R-rated comic book film has been one of the most anticipated films for most of the movie going audience in 2017 – and it shows by the numbers. The film made over $85 Million in its three-day weekend opening, making it the highest March opening at the box office ever for an R-rated movie. It is also the 5th highest opening movie of all-time for an R-rated movie, jumping over the 2015’s Fifty Shades of Grey.
The Shack and Before I Fall managed to stay in the top five positions, but I do not anticipate that they will stick around past this weekend. The Shack, the Christian/Drama, managed to grab $16 Million and Before I Fall, a Drama/Mystery, made only $4 Million. I would not have been shocked to find out that they did not make it into the top five spots at all. Both films where not advertised heavily, nor are they block buster type films, so making the money they did I’m sure has made their studio heads very happy.
Get Out as well as The LEGO Batman Movie are the only remaining movies from previous weeks to stick around.
No 1. Logan – $85,300,00 in its first weekend of release.
No 2. Get Out – $26,110,695. Bringing its total gross in its 2nd weekend to $75,954,335.
No 3. The Shack – $16,100,000 in its first weekend of release.
No 4. The LEGO Batman Movie – $11,650,000. Bringing its total gross in its 4th weekend to $148,631,801.
No 5. Before I Fall – $4,948,538 in its first weekend of release
