It looks like a ‘Trolls’ seaquel is already in the works.

Universal finally has another animated property that can be milked to death and it’s NOT tied to Despicable Me.

The studio has announced it will release DreamWorks’ sequel to Trolls.  It has a release date set for April 10, 2020.  Interestingly enough, this is a date previously reserved for an untitled Universal event film.

Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake are reprising their roles as Poppy and Branch in the musical comedy-adventure.

This property was originally inspired by the popular Troll dolls of the 1960. Mike Mitchell‘s Trolls featured a script by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger.  Besides Kendrick and Timberlake, the film stared James Corden, Russell Brand, Zooey Deschanel, Jeffrey Tambor and Quvenzhane Wallis. It also got an Academy Award nomination this year for best original song for Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”

I have never seen Trolls, but it comes as no surprise that a sequel is in the works.  Last year Trolls grossed $339 Million at the world-wide box office – on a budget of $125 Million. And it’s going to continue to make money on DVD and Digital Download sales due to its appeal with families.

While the yet untitled Trolls sequel is still three years away, audiences are for sure going to flock out to see this film in 2020
