So who remembers when Ben Affleck being cast as Batman in Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was on of the most controversial topics being discussed during that time. Funny how now that the movie as been out the “Batfleck” has gone on to be the only unanimously praised aspect about the film. Now Affleck has been chosen by Warner Bros. to write, direct, and star in the next Batman solo film.
Since the announcement fans have been wondering which classic Batman comic book storyline Affleck will adapt for his solo script. And it looks like we may now know the answer to that question – none of them, at least not verbatim.
In an interview by the Spanish-language news outlet Cines Argentinos, Affleck was asked about his plans for the still untitled Batman project and he had this to say:
“I think what I would do is, I would probably do in some ways what Zach [Snyder] did with this movie, which is to borrow great stories from the great comic books but create an original story around it. I wouldn’t want fans to already know the story, but I would borrow – steal – great things that have been done before in the comics.”
To nobody’s surprise this may cause some dismay with die-hard Batman fan boys and girls, however this is not a bad thing at all.
If you have ever read the ‘Civil War’ comic books then you would know that the movie, Captain America: Civil War is nothing like the book. Also, the same thing can be said for the upcoming Thor: Ragnarök which is creating an original story but taking its beats from several different books.
All the trust in the world should be given to Affleck that he is going to make an amazing film.
