I got another Facebook question messaged in. And this on is from Wade Riley who writes:
Are there any characters you feel are missing from the avengers that would benefit the story line?
Thank you very much for the question Wade!
I’ll give you three characters that I feel are missing and could benefit the avengers lineup.
Right off the bat I would have to say Luke Cage, also known as Power Man.
He is the embodiment of a perfect underdog story. When he was young he grew up in gangs on the streets of Harlem. And was constantly in trouble. But after several tragic incidences involving loved ones, he decides to better himself and start doing what he could to turn his life around. Right around that time he is experimented on, and through a lab mistake, is turned into Power Man – who has unbreakable skin, able to lift/press 25 tons and punch through 4 inch steel plates. He also taught himself in hand to hand combat, and self-educated in law, and is fluent is several different languages.
The Avengers are missing a power person on their team. The only one that fits the bill is Hulk, but he is too unpredictable. Cage would be able to kick all sorts of ass, as well as act as a moral center of the team when Captain America isn’t around.
Unfortunately, and fortunately, we will probably never get Luke Cage in an Avengers movie because he is scheduled to show up in his own Netflix series titled, Luke Cage, as well as show up in the Netflix series The Defenders alongside Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones.
Another Marvel character I would love to see, that we have not yet seen, is Captain Marvel! Also known as Ms. Marvel or Carol Danvers.
She is a strong woman, with a scientific mind, whose body is taken over by an alien power that gives her the ability to fly, enhanced strength, and is able to shoot concussive energy blasts through her hands! What’s not to like about that?
Just imagine, what Tony Stark would say to her if she were on the team. Or even better, I would love to see the interaction between her and Falcon. Or her and the Black Widow. Plus she would be able to add a very powerful dynamic to the team that no woman has yet to fill. Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow is awesome don’t get me wrong. However, the team needs another female, a more powerful female. And I think Captain Marvel is the perfect character to fill that hole.
And just as luck would have it, there is currently a Captain Marvel movie scheduled to come out in 2019! So it looks like my wish may come true.
Now there is some sad news.
Contracts for actors whos characters we have fallen in love with are about to end; like Robert Downey Jr.‘s Tony Stark, Chris Evans‘s Captain America, Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor, and who knows how much longer Mark Ruffalo‘s Hulk is going to stick around past these guys. All great characters, played by great actors. However, they are not going to stick around on these properties forever. So who else can take all of their spots, and still be able to old together the central team down. The Fantastic Four!
So here is my pitch, they come in during the Phase 4 of the Avengers, right after Avengers Infinity War: Part 1 & 2 and after the contracts for the old characters start to end. You have Mr. Fantastic take the place of Tony Stark as the brilliant mind, the one with the most sense to take Captain America’s place is Invisible Woman, The Human Torch replaces Thor, and the Thing replaces the Hulk as the brute of the team. And they all work out of the Baxter Building turned into the new Avengers Tower. We will finally get a good Fantastic Four team movie, and will have plenty of new characters to continue making Marvel movies once contracts begin to end.
Thanks for the great question Wade! This was a lot of fun to answer!
