Daisy Ridley our new Tomb Raider?

After the crazy success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, actress Daisy Ridley is well on her way to being one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.  According to a report from Deadline the young actress is at the top of a casting list to take the lead role of Laura Croft in a new Tomb Raider remake.  The film has been talked about at Warner Brothers and MGM for quite some time now, but the film seems to be picking up momentum.  In the same report Deadline does cautions that it is still very early in the casting process and that a new lead for the film is still not set in stone.

Daisy Ridley (Force Awakens)

A release date has not yet been set for the film.  However, with the rise of video game based movies in Hollywood, and the growing popularity of the new Tomb Raider video game, it is a pretty safe bet that we could see Laura Croft return to the big screen within the next two years.

After reading several reports on this topic, and reading the internet reaction to this news I have to say I’m shocked with the negative reaction.  There seems to be a lot of people crying out all at once “Daisy Ridley is in Star Wars. We don’t want too much Daisy Ridley!”  And to that I have to ask, “Are you just looking for things to complain about?”  She has been in one movie! It’s not like its Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Heart, Jennifer Lawrence, or Emily Blunt; who are all showing up in several different movies a year.

Tomb Raider (game)

Currently, Ridley is shooting Star Wars: Episode VIII.  For one, am very excited for this news.  Not only because of Daisy Ridley (who looks exactly like Laura Croft in the new Tomb Raider games), but also because it shows the birth of anew Tomb Raider movie franchise.  The first two movies were “meh” at best.  And it is a universe that is ripe with good stories that are yet to be explored.  Hopefully this is news that will come to pass.
