With Ant-Man having exceeded all expectations its no surprise that Marvel Studios is continuing with a sequel. The film was able to score an 80% Critic rating and an 89% Audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. On top of that it made quite a bit of money, reaching $454M at the worldwide box office. Now, with the 2018 release date of Ant-Man and the Wasp approaching, the studio is reportedly hoping to bring director Peyton Reed back to helm their tiny superhero film once again.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reed is in final negotiations with the studio to continue sitting in the director’s chair and get the film ready to hit theaters for July 2018. However, in order to make that date Marvel moved around it’s Phase 3 movie dates in order to make room for this Ant-Man sequel. With this switch-around it was also announced that there would be three unspecified movies under the Marvel banner coming in 2020.
I guess we are going to have to wait, and speculate as to what those three Marvel movies could be. Any guesses?
Now, with the studio considering Reed for the job, it is pretty safe to assume that the sequel to Ant-Man won’t be plagued by the same directorial turnover as the last one; which involved director Edgar Wright stepping down from Ant-Man due to creative differences with the studio in 2014 after having been on the project since 2006!
I really enjoyed Ant-Man, and I’m expecting great things from it’s sequel. I’m sure things here will work out splendidly. I mean….it is a Marvel movie we are talking about.
